How to Market a Startup:
Lean Marketing Basics

This annual course offered by Flywheel is part of the “How To…” series for startups. This module helps entrepreneurs understand how to solve the toughest problem startups face – how to find customers, retain customers and build a brand experience that drives loyalty and referrals.

The class is designed to help active startups and curious entrepreneurs apply lessons taught by marketing professionals to their own businesses and projects. The class will cover the basic ingredients of customer discovery, customer segmentation, building a marketing strategy, and implementing through the best and most cost effective channels to reach the customer.

The class will use the latest marketing frameworks. Lean marketing is an approach that has its roots in the lean startup methodology pioneered by Alexander Osterwalder, Eric Reis, Steve Blank, and others. Lean marketing is evolving but emphasizes customer focus, testing, and cost effective resources. Lean marketing will provide context for the course. Another framework will be used is inbound marketing framework pioneered by HubSpot and adopted by almost all startups today. Inbound methodology primarily emphasizes digital marketing though the course will include other techniques such as conferences, networking, etc. when it is a marketing technique that work for startups.

The course is 8 weeks in duration for instructor led sessions. Winston Salem classes are on Wednesday nights from 6:00 – 8:00 PM each week starting on January 23, 2019. Davidson classes are on Monday nights from 6:00 – 8:00 PM each week starting on January 28, 2019.  Instructors for each location are shown below. The course consists of 8 instructor led sessions. Participants in the course will have access to the course material and updates after the course concludes. One time class only sessions are available for $20 payable at the door. The one time payments do not include access to the online course materials.
