Lean Startup Practices

The course curriculum will be based on the Stanford online course CS183B, a Y Combinator and Sam Altman course. Attendees will register for the course and be lead through 6 sessions with the likes of startup experts like Peter Thiel, Aaron Levie, and Reid Hoffman to discuss how to come up with ideas and evaluate them, how to get users and grow, how to do sales and marketing, how to hire, how to raise money, company culture, operations and management, business strategy, and more.

Class Format

The course is offered in both an instructor led format and online. All course participants will access the fStanford curriculum. Instructor led participants will be assigned 1-2 sessions per week to take independently online. The instructor led class will convene Wednesday evenings to review and discuss the materials, illustrated with case studies, and to get one on one assistance from the instructors.


The instructor led course is 6 weeks in duration. The instructor led classes will be offered at both the Winston-Salem and Davidson locations. The sessions in Winston Salem are on Wednesday nights from 5:30 – 7:30 PM each week. The sessions in Davidson are on Wednesday nights from 6:30 -8:30 each week first hour of the instructor led class will include lecture and review of course materials. The second hour will be optional one on one assistance on student projects. Online classes are available anytime.

Fall Semester Class

The Fall 2019 instructor led session will begin on September 25, 2019 and end on November 6, 2019.  There will be no class on October 16th. Note the Winston-Salem location is planned to move to the new Flywheel location in early November.

Spring Semester Class

The Spring 2020 instructor led session will begin on January 29, 2020 and end on March 11, 2020.  There will be no class on March 4th. Note the Winston-Salem location will be at the new Flywheel location at 500 W. Fifth, Eighth Floor.
